STILL WITH THANKS IN OUR HEARTS

Tutel and I started wrapping gifts for our "inaanaks" (Filipino term for God-Children).  We can't help but recall and thank GOD that despite all the troubles of this year, here we are, wrapping gifts....

Four months ago, the company we are working for ceased operations.  As a measure of cutting further loses, the management decided to retrench as much as 40% of the company's employees.  Thankfully, our technical positions in systems were considered as necessary for the possible resumption of operations, we were kept...hearts saddened, low morale.  I realized that the fact that we are both in the same company would be difficult should the company close down. Both of us will be out of work.  Sadly,  it is not only with our company, but in the entire Philippines that workers are laid off as an effect of the Global recession.  Also true to other countries around the world.

Two months ago, the company resumed operations with the hope that it would recover its loses.

One month ago, the company came out with a second wave of retrenchment.  Many of our co-workers... our friends, had to leave.  Management positions were "cleaned-out", they say that this is necessary for the "re-newal" of operations.  The leaders that we looked up to, those who have carried the burdens and troubles of the company had to say their goodbyes.

Two weeks ago, other companies started giving out their bonuses and 13th month pays.... our company cannot afford to give us since the company is still losing money.

Fortunately, we were able to SAVE througout the year.  Tutel is very good in saving.  Although I also do budget every month, it is Tutel who ensures that the target savings are kept before anything else.

It's Christmas once again.  We decorated our door, bought new curtains, dressed up our Christmas tree.... the hard times taught us to face the realities of life, the uncertainties taught us to re-think our options and means of living... here we are strengthened by times,  thankful that we have each other to hold on to.... preparing to celebrate Christmas... still with THANKS in our hearts.
