PINOY FUN GAMES: TUMBANG PRESO

Tumbang Preso is a fun game that children of the eighty’s (80’s) play. The side-streets are filled with children, slippers on one hand, a can in the middle of the street, waiting to take the can down….

Now, fewer children play this game.  Maybe there are children today who never knew about this game and haven't played it. It's really disappointing that children are missing the FUN of enjoying Pinoy children games.

You will need:
1. 1 empty can. Preferably a small to medium milk can.
2. Your own slippers.
3. A side street not busy enough to have a long time of FUN games.

Game Mechanics:

1. There is no limit on how many players may play.
2. For eliminations, each participant must try to flip the can and land it standing.
3. If the can stands, the participant is safe. Those who cannot stand the can will be left to try again until only one is left as “taya” (can guardian).
4. On two sides will be two bases (safe areas) where children stands and they cannot be tagged as long as they stay behind it. On the center is a circle where the can stands.
5. Children will then try to knock down the can with their slippers out of the circle. One participant can only use his own slippers. If both slippers are already used, one may run across and fetch your slippers back.
6. The “taya” or can guardians’ objective is to tap another player to exchange roles. He must be able to tag another player before the can is knocked down. If not, he stays as the taya until another player is tagged.
7. So, there are only two ways to knock the can down, using your slippers and kicking the can.
8. Once the taya tags another player, he would have to knock the can down and run to the safe line.
9. The new taya will then have to get the can and place it back inside the circle. The game start with a new taya.

It sounds simple right? Yes it is simple, but this game is proven to be very exciting and FUN. This is one outdoor activity that children get the chance to run around and have FUN.
